The 2025 MacBook chronology is centered around the rollout of Apple’s new M5 chip series, expected to appear in MacBook Pro models likely launching around October or November 2025. This new generation M5 MacBook Pro will primarily feature the updated M5, M5 Pro, M5 Max, and M5 Ultra chip variants, continuing Apple’s Chip evolution beyond the M4 series introduced earlier in 2025. The 2025 MacBook Air was updated with M2 chips in March 2025, with no confirmed M5 Air yet as of mid-2025.
Key details on the 2025 MacBook timeline:
- Early 2025 updates (March): MacBook Air and Mac Studio received M2 and M4 Max/Ultra chip upgrades.
- Late 2025 (October/November window): Expected release of M5 MacBook Pro models with enhanced M5 chipsets (M5, M5 Pro, M5 Max, M5 Ultra) according to leaked plans and industry rumors [1] [2] [5].
- The M5 MacBook Pro update is characterized mostly by new chipset power, with OLED display tech rumored for 2026 rather than 2025, making the 2025 MacBook Pro update more chip-focused [2].
- Throughout 2025, Apple also continues updating other product lines with new custom chipsets, including Mac Studio and Mac Pro with high-end M4 variants.
In summary, the 2025 MacBook timeline features initial M2/M4 hardware updates early in the year (March), followed by a significant M5 MacBook Pro launch towards late 2025. This follows Apple’s typical product refresh cadence and chip evolution from M1 → M2 → M3 → M4 → M5 architectures [1] [2] [4].
