How to buy a computer without bloatware

Buy a computer, not mac, with all the bloat crap - cheap as possible.

Buy a USB stick 8 to 16 Gb.

Connect computer to internet.

Download Linux distro or Windows ISO file (they are both ISO files)

Follow instructions below.

Windows.

Clean installation of Windows 10 - wipes all. NOTE I use Rufus, NOT the Windows way of doing things.

Purchase a 16 GB USB drive.

On a working computer, download the Windows 10 iso file from the official MS site.

Download the newest Rufus on the same computer.

Run Rufus and create Windows 10 live USB media. Choose UEFI.

On the computer to install on, boot and enter BIOS.

In booting options, select UEFI. Set boot sequence to start with USB.

Press F10 to save and exit BIOS.

Power down.

Insert USB drive.

Power up.

Install Windows.

Do yourself a favour, enter disk management and set the partition system to GPT. (for disks above 2 Tb)

All you need is a USB stick, I used 8 Gb, but it may have “grown” beyond, I don’t know. And of course your computer, which must have internet access.

Boot your pc.

Download the Ubuntu 20.04 LTS ISO file (search the net and it’ll pop up).

Download the newest Rufus.

Install Rufus.

With Rufus, create a live Ubuntu 20.04 LTS USB stick (16 Gb will do) select UEFI.

Remove USB stick.

On computer to install Ubuntu

Power up computer, entering BIOS.

Go to boot options.

Select UEFI.

Set Boot sequence to USB first.

Insert USB stick.

Save and Exit BIOS.

Let Ubuntu boot from the USB stick.

Install Ubuntu.

Remove USB stick.

Restart computer.

Remove standard programs you don’t want (like libre office - yuck).

Install the programs you want.

Welcome to Ubuntu 20.04 LTS.
