To set preferences for Finder, follow these steps:
- Choose ‘Preferences Finder’ from the menu bar.
- Click on the General tab in the opened window.
- You will see a list of all the items that can have an associated icon and can be displayed on the desktop.
- Check the items that you want to show on the desktop.
To configure AirPort utility, follow these steps:
- To access AirPort utility, which is located in the Utility folder within the Applications folder, you should open the folder.
- In AirPort utility, click on the base station icon.
- Then, find the drop-down menu and choose Edit.
- At this point, you can reconfigure the base or customize the password according to your needs.
To set up an AirPort Extreme, follow these steps:
- Join the new AirPort network by accessing the Wi-Fi settings on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac.
- By clicking on the More options button, choose "Add to an existing network".
- Choose the name of your current Wi-Fi network from the list.
AirPort bases, developed by Apple in 1999, are Wi-Fi devices that allow you to quickly set up a home network (or LAN, local area network). Apple states that AirPort Express, Apple Extreme, and Apple Time Capsule have the ability to provide wireless connectivity.
The AirPort utility shows the Wi-Fi network and all connected bases. The modem or router connects the main base (in this example, Home) to the Internet.
To gain remote access:
- Using FileBrowser, you can connect to the Time Capsule.
- You can create a new location within the FileBrowser application.
- In the address field, enter the domain name or IP address that you obtained using free DNS management services.
- Connect the device cable to a power outlet.
- In the Mac menu bar, click on the Wi-Fi status icon, and then on the device.
- AirPort Utility will open.
- To set up the wireless device in AirPort Utility, follow the on-screen instructions.
To save a backup:
- Choose Settings, then Backup and Restore (Windows 7).
- Click on "Modify settings".
- To save a backup, choose the external hard drive, also known as a "removable disk", and then click "Next".
Methods to restore a Time Machine backup using macOS Recovery:
- Click on Restore from Time Machine in the macOS Utilities window.
- Then, choose a backup drive.
- To restore, select a date and time, and choose your Mac’s hard drive, then follow the instructions.
To set up an external hard drive on Mac, follow these steps:
- Launch the Disk Utility to set up an external hard drive on Mac.
- The list of mounted disks on your Mac is displayed in the left sidebar.
- Select the disk to be formatted.
- In the application toolbar, press the "Erase" command.
- Disk Utility will determine the format to use for formatting.
