  2. If the disc doesn’t start playing automatically, open Windows Media Player. Then, in the navigation pane, select the name of the DVD in the media library.

  3. Alternatively, you can use VLC Media Player to play the DVD. Insert the DVD into the appropriate DVD drive on your computer, making sure the printed side of the disc is facing downwards. VLC Media Player should automatically start playing the DVD.

The DVD/Blu-ray playback feature is not available in Windows 10, 8/8.1, and 7* versions. To play movies or videos on DVD/Blu-ray, you will need to use the Windows DVD Player application, which does not support Blu-ray, or a third-party application.

If you don’t want to spend money on a DVD player, you can use an alternative method: using ISO files or any other type of image file. The concept is simply to save your discs (CDs, DVDs, and Blu-Rays) as files and then read them directly from your PC. Windows reads and "mounts" ISO files as if they were virtual discs.

VLC is the first program to watch DVDs on your PC. It is a completely free and open-source program that works with Windows and Mac.

You can use Windows Media Player to play DVDs if you are using Windows 7 or any earlier version of the operating system. When a DVD is inserted into the DVD drive connected to your PC, the program will start automatically.
