Opening WEBP Files
If you come across a WEBP file, you can open it with a graphics editor such as Gimp, Photoshop, Image Magick, or IrfanView. The WebP format is based on the On2 Technologies, which Google acquired. The format was first introduced in 2010.
What is WebP?
WebP is an image format developed by Google that improves the loading speed of web pages due to its superior compression compared to image formats like JPEG, PNG, and GIF.
Converting WEBP to JPG
To convert WebP images to JPG, follow these steps:
- Go to "This PC" and choose "View".
- Select the "File name extensions" checkbox and find an image with the .webp extension.
- Change the extension to .jpg or .png instead.
- Copy the image to the folder of your choice.
Converting to WebP on Mac with WebPonize
The quickest and simplest method to convert images to WebP format on Mac is by using WebPonize. WebPonize allows you to convert images by simply dragging and dropping them. The original size, final size, and percentage reduction of the original file will be displayed as output.
Opening WebP Images with Photoshop
To open WebP images in Photoshop, you need to install the WebP Format plugin. Once installed, go to "File" and choose the WebP image you want to open.
Opening WebP Files on Mac
The WebP format is associated with the Preview application by default on Mac. To open a .webp file, double-click on it. If it’s not associated, open the Preview application and use the "File > Open" command to open the file.
Obtaining WebP Files
Right-click on the image and choose "Save Image As". In some cases, the "webp" extension may not be included in the image. Other programming types, such as an ending in "-rw" in the address, may occasionally be found.
Installing Plugins in Photoshop
Installing plugins in Photoshop is simple:
- Extract the contents of a Zip file into a folder.
- Copy and paste the plugin file into the Photoshop plugin folder.
- The plugin folder is located inside the Programs folder or where you have installed Photoshop.
Saving as WebP in Photoshop
After editing a document, you can save it as a WebP file by choosing "Save a Copy". Then, in the File Format menu, select WebP. When there is no risk of file overwrite or data loss, WebP is also available in "Save As".
Converting WEBP to GIF
Step 1: Convert WEBP to GIF.
- Load the WebP file.
- Choose the "to gif" option.
- Select a format, such as GIF, from the over 200 supported formats.
- Download your GIF animation immediately after the file is converted.
Downloading Images as PNG
To save images in PNG format:
- Select the "File name" field from the "Save as type" dropdown menu to view all compatible formats.
- Choose "PNG" and click "Save".
- The file will be saved in PNG format in the same location as the original file.

To add transitions and filters in Adobe Premiere Pro:
- Start the application.
- Import the video and drag it into the timeline.

- View the "Transitions" folder.
- Choose the type of transition you want to use.
- Place it above the clip.
- Click "Yes".
