To access information about digital signatures using Postecert, you need to first access the service’s website. Then, click on the "Select file" button and choose the p7s file to examine through the suggested panel.
The Windows certificate manager can be used to open a p7s file on Windows. Unlike p7m files, p7s files only contain information about the digital certificate. Therefore, the simplest method to view this information is to use the Windows certificate manager.
P7s files are not necessarily meant to be opened. Email management applications like Microsoft Outlook, Apple Mail, and others use them internally. Most email applications, such as Microsoft Outlook, Apple Mail, and Mozilla Thunderbird, support digital signatures.
Unfortunately, aside from Apple Mail, Android currently does not have methods to open P7S files with digital signatures. However, there are many options for computers. The file can be sent to the client after opening and retrieved on the mobile device.
The following programs can be used to open S/MIME files:
- Microsoft Outlook 2013
- Mozilla Thunderbird
- Apple Mail
- The mailbox
To open a P7S file using Outlook, follow these steps:
- Open the computer folder with the P7S file.
- Double-click on the file.
- Select "Microsoft Outlook 2010" from the list of default applications and click "Open".
To open a certified email message in Windows 10 Mail, launch the application and select the inbox folder of your certified account. Then, in the message containing the attachment you want to open, click on the postacert file.
To use P7M files on Android, you need to download one of the numerous apps dedicated to this purpose, such as "Visualizzatore fattura elettronica". This free application has the ability to open an XML file and can be downloaded directly from the Play Store and other stores to view the invoice inside.
To open a P7M file with Poste Italiane, follow these steps:
- After clicking on the "browse" button, choose the file you have saved on your computer.
- Confirm your choice by pressing the "open" button.
- If necessary, press the "confirm" button multiple times (or "accept and verify" or "verify", depending on the certifying entity’s link).
You can correctly open the digitally signed document (or p7m) this way.
Opening this type of file means verifying the validity of the signature and then reading the content using appropriate programs. Dike, a free and easy-to-use program that allows you to open p7m files and verify their validity, is one of the most used.
