OAuth (a more secure authentication standard) is now required for all third-party apps and clients connecting via IMAP, POP, or SMTP <sup class='quote-ref' data-quote='10'>[10]<\/sup>.<\/strong> This means traditional username\/password logins (even with app passwords) will fail unless the client supports OAuth2 authentication <sup class='quote-ref' data-quote='10'>[10]<\/sup>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To connect your Gmail account to any email client via IMAP in 2025:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Make sure your email client supports OAuth2 for authentication.<\/li>\n<li>Use the above server and port details.<\/li>\n<li>Enter your Gmail address as your username.<\/li>\n<li>When prompted for authentication, follow the OAuth2 sign-in workflow (the client may redirect you to a Google login window).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you are using legacy systems or devices that do not support OAuth2, they will no longer be able to connect to Gmail via IMAP as of early 2025 <sup class='quote-ref' data-quote='10'>[10]<\/sup>.
