Cosa fa Garmin Connect?
In 2025, Garmin officially announced integration with Google’s Health Connect platform, enabling direct syncing of data from Garmin Connect to Health Connect, starting from a rollout initially intended for June 2025 [1] [2] [3] [5] [6] [7]. This integration allows Android users to seamlessly share a broad set of fitness and health metrics tracked by their Garmin devices with other apps connected via Health Connect, finally replacing the need for workarounds or third-party solutions [2] [4].
Key Points:
- Data Sync Direction: The sync is strictly one-way—Garmin Connect sends data to Health Connect, but doesn’t receive data back. This means data recorded by other wearables (like Pixel or Samsung watches) via Health Connect will not appear in Garmin Connect [1] [6].
- Shared Data Types: The data Garmin allows to be shared with Health Connect includes:
- Active and total calories burned
- Cycling cadence
- Distance and elevation
- Heart rate data
- Speed, steps, step distance
- Swimming strokes
- Body fat, weight, sleep data, floors climbed [1] [6]
- Not Shared: Proprietary Garmin metrics such as body battery, training load, and running tolerance remain exclusive to Garmin Connect and are not sent to Health Connect [1] [6].
- Current Status (August 2025): As of late July and early August 2025, the integration is still in the process of rolling out—some reports indicate it is live for select users, while others show the update may be slightly delayed but imminent [1] [6].
Transition from Google Fit:
Google began deprecating Google Fit APIs in 2025 in favor of Health Connect, so future integration revolves around Health Connect rather than Google Fit itself [8]. Older third-party sync solutions like Health Sync can still be used to connect Garmin and Google Fit for now, but the native Garmin-Health Connect integration is the recommended way going forward [4] [8].
User Control:
All data sharing is opt-in; users control what data types are shared between platforms [2] [3].
Limitations:
- No bidirectional sync—Garmin Connect remains a data source only in this connection.
- Some detailed/proprietary metrics are not shared.
- True full rollout (as of August) may still be pending, with some users possibly waiting for a Play Store app update [1] [6].
This development marks a significant improvement in data portability for Garmin users on Android, but does not allow Google Fit (or other apps) to send data back to Garmin Connect or access Garmin proprietary analytics.
